Project 1: SpongeBob Task Tracker

Project 1 focuses on interacting with a button that is catered towards a specific character. We chose to center our button around the fictional character we all know and love, SpongeBob. The “SpongeBob Task Tracker” is an interactive application that SpongeBob uses to time the duration of his common daily tasks while simultaneously listening to his favorite tunes. Through different task buttons SpongeBob can listen to music for each task, once the music stops playing, he knows there is no more time allotted in his day for that task.

10 Sketch Ideas

Each member of our team came up with 10 initial sketches. When we created the initial sketches, we were not aware of the project requirement to be centered around a character. Therefore, all our initial sketches are based upon ideas and interactions we individually felt were entertaining, useful, and intriguing. For example, in my drawings I came up with some ideas surrounding Star Wars, Cows, and Elmo, all of which I have a passion for. On September 16, 2022, our group had a team meeting to share and discuss which idea we wanted to pursue. The meeting began with each member presenting the 10 initial sketches they created. Once all ideas had been shared, we each voiced which sketches presented by others in the group we thought were exceptional and why. After collecting five of our best ideas, we conducted a google forms vote to see which idea was the favorite. We came to a tie between Alexis’s routine task tracker and Kathryn’s internal time tester. We ran another google forms for the tie, and the results showed we all were ambitious towards Alexis’s routine task tracker. By voting through google forms each member of the team was able to voice their opinion anonymously without being influenced and enticed to choose an option.

10 Detailed Sketch Ideas

After we collectively voted on the routine idea as a group, we decided to expand on this concept. We created detail and variation sketches to explore the different designs and functionalities we could potentially implement in the final product. Since we wanted to highlight how the central interactions throughout the application were with button(s), we chose the sketches where each routine or task was represented with a button of its own. We discussed how this would help us better organize our implementation of the responses to the button clicks since we have modularized each task and we can do so in our coding process as well. Also, there were a few variations that drew our attention (e.g., being able to add new tasks, collaborating with others on a task, etc.), but due to the time-constraint of the project, we had to choose some of the simpler detail sketches to implement instead.

Video Presentation

Below is a video demonstration of SpongeBob Task Tracker. Our project website was developed using Glitch in the languages HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The video was created using Sony Vegas Pro 17.

My Contributions

I attended all team meetings and collaborative sessions, during these time periods I actively participated to help group progress move forward. I drew 10 initial sketch ideas and 10 detailed sketch ideas. I created and formatted the task YouTube playing page in glitch. I found content for task pages lunch, Patrick, and workout. I linked these pages back to the main page. Lastly, I completed the write up for the main project description and the initial drawings.
